Stockade Lake is the largest lake in Custer State Park and is located on Highway 16A just east of the town of Custer. The lake has 2 campgrounds, and is the only lake in the park that allows all boats.

We saw this lake right when we entered the park through the west on 16A and could not believe how peaceful it was. This is the largest of the 5 lakes in Custer but appears to be the quietest.

Out of these five lakes, Stockade Lake is the park’s largest and offers the most amenities for campers, making it an ideal location to explore the Black Hills whether in a large RV or a solo tent.
